Abstract:
It is well acknowledged that skilled labour is essential to the success of every organisation. For bank personnel to continue to be competent the bank needs employees with a wide variety of knowledge, skills, and talents.Additionally, the socioeconomic background of the employees has a big impact on employee competencies. The main purpose of the study is to find out any notable variations in competence across the major demographic variables of the employees. The study also aims to determine the discrepancy between the actual and expected levels of competencies. The study was limited only to Dakshinakannada and Udupi district of Karnataka. The study revealed that demographic variables have a strong influence on the different variables of competencies. Among the four dimensions of competences selected for the study viz; personal competencies, selling competencies, communication skill and customer relationship management, selling competencies shows highest gap. The study has practical implications and useful suggestions to fill the
